Install Ubuntu as A Second OS

A New Computer

I got a new Dell computer several weeks ago, which installed the Windows 10. The computer has 2 disks, a 120Gb SSD and a 1T HDD.

I reserved 430G of HDD space and installed a ubuntu 20.04 as my second os, but I met some troubles because of the new UEFI system.

Deal with It

New Tool

At the beginning, I used an old version of UltraISO to make the USB boot system, but the UEFI system even can not recognize it.

I’ve been stuck here for a long time and found a useful tool Rufus that can deal with the UEFI firmware.

Boot Loader

The bootloader of ubuntu was installed in the UEFI partition where the Windows Boot Manager is located, although I chose to install it at the root partition of ubuntu during installation.

Finally, I learned that the UltraISO can also make USB boot media compatible with UEFI. ๐Ÿ˜‚

It wasted my whole day, really!
